Phonics
PHONICS
To teach phonics at Audley Infant School we use:
- Red Rose Letters and Sounds systematic, synthetic phonics planning programme.
- Oxford Reading Tree reading scheme (Project X, Hero Academy, Word Sparks - fiction & non-fiction)
We use this scheme for teaching phonics from Reception to Year 2
We use Oxford Reading Tree as our main reading scheme. The books link to the phonics taught in the Red Rose Phonic Scheme.
Our aim is to secure the phonic skills to enable our pupils to be fluent readers by the end of Year 1.
In Reception and Year 1, all pupils receive daily phonics lesson. The pupils work at pace through the Red Rose phonic programme to develop fluency in reading.
Pupils in Year 2 who are not yet fluent readers will continue with a daily phonic session. If they did not pass the Phonic Test in Year 1, then they will resit the test in June.
We also deliver Fast Track Phonics and Booster Phonics to support pupils who still need to sit the test in Year 2
We hold Parents' Meetings in phonics at the beginning of the school year in Reception and Y1 - these explain the phonics to be taught throughout the year and the strategies we use to segment and blend for reading and writing. Please see the PowerPoints below.
