Explain history is what has happened. It is the past.
Talk about 3 things you did in the past – I was born, I started school, I went on holiday etc
Some things happened a long time ago. Look at toys from the past. Can they say anything about them? Praise use of historical language – language related to the past / passing of time.
Your child can either stick the old and new toys onto the old/new sheet or they could draw a table of old and new toys in their remote learning books.
Local Walk looking at houses
Take photographs of local historical clues whilst on a walk around local area – houses/post boxes/churches. During the walk draw and label a house focussing on key features – windows, doors, brickwork, and decoration. When you get home look on the internet at features of old/new houses. Are there any clues that tell us when the house was built? Look for new windows, chimneys, extensions, satellites dishes, alarms. Discuss changes in houses over the years. What are they? Why do you think this has happened?
