Friday 8th January - 'ue' sound

Today’s lesson will focus on the sound ‘ue’. Please watch the video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLrAGcK26s4 and practise the sound. Ask your child to read the following real words, sounding out and blending together each word: sue, cue, blue, true, clue, fuel, argue, cruel, issue, tissue
Then practise reading the ‘nonsense words’: jue, prue, crue, thue, chuel, gruen, bruenk.

Once your child has read the words please complete the ‘ue’ activity below, copying into your remote learning book. If you have a printer, you can print out the worksheet and complete the activities on there.

This half term we will be doing the phonics test that your child missed in summer.  This is a government requirement and results will be submitted.

 

In education city there are some practise phonics screening activities that will be there for the next month - please encourage your child to repeat these activities regularly. 

 

There are also some activities to support reading words with split diagraphs (magic 'e') such as same, take, etc.  This is an area which we need to focus on.

 

You will find your child's education city password in either their reading record or homework book.

Explain to your child that the igh' sound usually goes in the middle of the word like ‘light’ and ‘knight’ and commonly ends with the letter ‘t’.

Explain to your child that the ea' sound usually goes in the middle of the word like ‘seat’ and ‘clean’. ‘sea’  and ‘tea’ are some exceptions to this rule where it is at the end.

Explain to your child that the 'ie' is usually follow by an ‘s’ when we are writing plurals of words that end in y, for example spy becomes ‘spies’ and the verb form that ends in y, for example ‘cry’ and ‘try’ becomes ‘tries’ and ‘cries’
