Home Learning w/b 12.10.2020

This page has been set up for Mrs Khan's class. Mrs Massey's class and Miss Houghton's class who are self isolating. Please try to complete some Phonics work, English and Maths in the morning. In the afternoon we would like you to log on to Education City and complete activities on there. Also in the afternoon we would like you to go to Oxford Owl (see link below) and read a book - it's very important that whilst you are at home you try and read everyday. Please use your homework books to complete your work, don't worry about filling them up, we can give you new ones when you return to school.

Your child can play phonics games on the website below. There are lots of games on here that your child will be very familiar with. Please encourage your child to play the games daily, start with the flashcards and also go through the tricky words daily. You could then have a go on the reading robot.

We would also like you to go to Polly's phonics on Discovery Education  - go to free resources and revise all the phase 3 sounds. You can watch the videos, your child will tell you what to do! We have included some phase 3 spelling activities below, please try and complete these, if you can't print them off, do it in your homework book. If your child is in Yellow group and recognises all these sounds then move up with them to phase 4 or phase 5.

Monday 9.30 - 10.30

English 

Look at the picture and ask your child to tell you about what's happening in the picture, encourage lots of talk. If your child is struggling to give you a sentence then support them, talk about key things happening in the picture. Then ask them to write some sentences about the picture - encourage them to use capital letters and full stops. Can they use adjectives to describe things and conjunctions in their sentences? Remind them about using their best handwriting!

Children can use their homework books do their work whilst at home, don't worry about filling them we can give them a new one once they return.

Tuesday 9.30-10.30

English

Today we would like the children to look at another picture. What can they see at the party? Start off by doing lots of talk, get your child to give you full sentences about what they can see for eg: It's the boy's birthday and he is six. The children have gone to a party and there is lots of yummy food.

For the Yellow group we would like the children to think of 5 sentences and write them. We would like the children to remember their writing goals and we would also like them to try and extend their sentence by using 'and' and or 'because'. For the Red group we would like the children to think of 4 sentences and write them. We would like the children to remember their writing goals and we would also like them to try and extend their sentence by using 'and'. For Green group we would like the children to think of 3 sentences and write them. We would like the children to remember their writing goals. For the Blue group we would like the children to write 2 "I can see ..." sentences. Encourage them to use their phonics to sound out what they can see.

English

Today we would like the children to look at the last picture for this week. What can they see happening at home? Again start off by doing lots of talk, get your child to give you full sentences about what they can see. It's really important they can say the sentence before they write it.

For the Yellow group we would like the children to think of 5 sentences and write them. We would like the children to remember their writing goals and we would also like them to try and extend their sentence by using 'and' and or 'because'. For the Red group we would like the children to think of 4 sentences and write them. We would like the children to remember their writing goals and we would also like them to try and extend their sentence by using 'and'. For Green group we would like the children to think of 3 sentences and write them. We would like the children to remember their writing goals. For the Blue group we would like the children to write 2 "I can see ..." sentences. Encourage them to use their phonics to sound out what they can see. Please remind the children about finger spaces, capital letters and full stops, also their best handwriting!

Today we would like you to watch Miss Barron in the video. She will talk to you about capital letters and full stops. Pause the video at different points and talk about the content with your child. Get your child to write their own sentences at the end and then do the

five-finger check...

capital letters, finger spaces, spellings, full stops and does it makes sense?

After this activity you could go through this weeks spellings ready for the test tomorrow!

English

Today we would like you to start off with your spelling test, turn to the back of your book like you do in school and get mummy or daddy to test you, you can help them to mark your spellings once complete? Good luck! Next week spellings will be available on Monday.

After your spelling test we would like you try the Spelling and Grammar sheet below. Get your family to help you as this is the first time you will be doing one of these sheets.

Addition - use the 100 square on number splat do complete the addition sheet below, you can ask your family to write some more addition calculations in your homework book for you to complete

Today we would like you to continue with addition, remember to use the 100 square on number splat to count on. 

16 + 4 = 

Remember what to do, put your finger on 16 and hide it then count on 4 more, what's your answer? If you are really good at doing this on the 100 square then try putting the big number in your head and counting on using your fingers,

Maths -Subtraction

After 2 days of Addition, we would now like you to revisit Subtraction - can you remember how we subtract? We count back on the number line or 100 square.  Have a go..........

12 - 4 =    Put your finger on 12 and hide it, then use your other hand to take away 4, what's your answer? Complete the sheets below,  remember to use number splat to help you.

Today we would like you to continue with Subtraction - how did you get on yesterday? Could you do it by yourself? Try and have a go by yourself today and then get an adult to check your answers. After completing your work either on sheets or in your homework book, we would like you to watch the video of Miss Robson finding half of a number.

Friday

Maths 

Today we would like you to do the maths test below,  it's a bit different to the ones we do in school but the same idea. Have a go at doing it yourself and then mummy or daddy can go through it with you. Once you have done that we would like you to watch the video of Miss Robson looking at 1 more and 1 less, try the quiz first and then press next at the bottom of the page to watch the video.
