English 9.30-10.30am

Welcome back children, we hope you all had a relaxing week off!

Back to home learning this week - are you ready to do lots more learning?

This week in English we will be looking at 'Information texts' - Can you tell your family what we call information books - Non-fiction Books

This week we want the children to be able to identify features of non-fiction books

Look at the book in their reading bag. Is it a fiction (story book) or a non-fiction book (information book)?

Does it have any of the features of non-fiction books - contents, glossary, index, photographs? Today we will look at the features of a non-fiction book and what job they do?

Look at the power points below and talk to your child about the features of a non-fiction book.
Below I have added a video of Miss Gray sharing a non-fiction book all about 'Sunflowers' for you to share with your child, I would like you to watch the video and help your child make a list of the features that they see eg: contents page, photographs, index, labels, glossary, caption, headings, sub-headings, diagrams, facts. Talk to your child about each of these features and what job their job is. You can do this with other books you might have at home.

Story Time with Miss Gray - Life Cycle of a Sunflower

Listen to Miss Gray read this non-fiction book about the life cycle of a sunflower. Watch how it starts from a tiny seed and grows into a huge sunflower...
