Good morning Year 1, we are going to continue with our Mr. Benn theme this week by writing our own exciting adventure. Last week we wrote a class story but this week you will create your very own Mr. Benn adventure.
I would like you to watch the video below with an adult who will be supporting you with your learning this week, as you watch the story remember to talk to your adult about Mr. Benn's repeated phrases and the order of his adventures.
Everyone completed their story mountain yesterday that you will follow over the week to write the beginning, middle and end to your own adventure.
Today I would like you to try and write the start of your story. This is an example of the beginning of a Mr. Benn adventure where he becomes a firefighter, remember to use your plan to link the start of your story to the character he becomes
It was a sunny, summers day on Festive Road. The children were laughing and having fun with water balloons on the street. At number 52, Mr. Benn looked out of his window into his garden full of colourful plants, he decided he would go and buy a new watering can to keep them healthy and strong. Mr. Benn soon appeared at his front door wearing his black hat and coat. He wandered past the park and sat watching the ducks swimming in the pond. He past the butchers and coffee shop, he carried on further and recognised the lane he strolled into, it was the lane with the unusual costume shop where adventures begin! He stepped inside the shop and heard the bell on the door ring, as if by magic the shopkeeper appeared! "Good morning, sir, how are you today?" "I'm very well, thank you." replied Mr. Benn. Mr. Benn looked around the shop, "Everything seems to be about water today, what would you recommend I choose?" The shopkeeper picked up a firefighter's uniform saying "what do you think about this?" Mr. Benn looked at the yellow trousers and jacket and replied "Yes, that looks interesting I will try it on." He walked towards the fitting room door and wondered if another adventure would start from there. He was soon changed into the costume and smiled at himself in the mirror happily. After he had admired his new clothes, Mr. Benn looked around for the special door, not the one that he had come through but the green door that might lead to an adventure! Without another thought he walked through.
Try and use adjectives (describing words) to make your writing interesting. You could use conjunctions to extend your sentences and don't forget your capital letters and full stops. Remember we have been trying to use question marks and exclamation marks in our writing so please include these.
Yellow and Red - I would like you to try and write a page for the beginning of your Mr. Benn story, remember to use conjunctions, adjectives and punctuation including speech marks.
Green group - I would like you to try and write at least half a page for the beginning of your Mr. Benn story, remember to use conjunctions, adjectives and punctuation.
Blue group - I would like you to try and write some sentences about what happens at the beginning of your Mr. Benn story.
I can't wait to read your adventure later today, good luck!
